History

Picture
Originally formed as Williamstown Rainbows in 1926, Williamstown Imperials Cricket Club is one of the oldest established cricket clubs in the area, boasting a successful history as one of Hobsons Bay’s most decorated cricket clubs. A powerhouse during the 1940s, 50s and 60s, WICC produced many of the local area’s best cricketers with numerous premierships taken back and proudly hung in the club rooms at the “Fearon”. The ultimate pinnacle of our club’s history, was forging a dynasty that won seven premierships in a row during the 1960s. Our most recent 1st XI flag was won in 2023-24 and with the club well represented in finals over the last few seasons - we stand poised to claim a flag this year.

My first game with the Imps was in 1948 and my last was in 1969 before moving to Perth. During my 20 years, I played in ten premiership sides and played upwards of 250 games. My bowling highlight was in 1964 against Altona in a semi final when my 9 for 27 included 2 separate hat tricks. It was Altona's last game in our competition before moving to Sub-District the next year.  Don Orr - Leading Wicket taker.
